This movie is NOT an action-packed blockbuster flick like Black Hawk Down in the first place. It is basically a human drama about intelligent diplomatic exchange between N and S Korea. The dinner scene at S Korean embassy is extremely moving because that's the first time they feel unity. Only if you get that sensibility, this movie is an absolute masterpiece.

Les voy a explicar mí interpretación. La prota sufre de algún trastorno o retraso mental, lo cual siempre ve de una forma positiva, todo lo que le sucede, en eso refleja su inocencia incluso con su bully y con su abusador, además de su poca empatía e indiferencia hacía su hermana. Al principio nos encontramos en un escenario pesado para su mente inocente (la parte que no entendí, es de por que no permitió de que su abusador no se colocara protección, quizás lo hizo para dejar de ser abusada por el, o para obtener dinero). Cuando ella queda embarazada, su abusador no quiere colaborar con el aborto, entonces ella recurre a la escuela, que estos la engañan y la mandan al carajo, con ese "contrato". Luego pasa lo de la muerte de su abusadora/matona, entonces ella toca fondo y escapa de su relidad, conoce a una chica sin hogar, un poco ruda y viva, pero al final se dejó llevar por la prota. Pasa el insidente del tipo que las lleva al hotel y en eso, la compañera de la prota, nunca vió un abuso, entonces entra en pánico y pide ayuda de los chicos de la moto (así los llamaremos). La prota no sentía que esto era un abuso, en su inocencia ella está acostumbrada a esto y el tipo la engañó. Lo que yo no entiendo, es por que los chicos de las motos, las siguieron, no tenían hogar, trabajo, familia?; eso no lo entiendo. Bueno, los chicos y la chica intentan de buscar formas de que la prota deje de estar embarazada, pero nada funciona. Entonces saben que necesitan dinero, entonces el chico de pelo azul las lleva a uno de sus conocidos el cual es un "chulo", entonces las ofrece a clientes, el le paga al chico de pelo azul, este luego se arrepiente y llama a la policía para que las "rescate". Siguen buscando soluciones (no entendí el por que el chico vendió la moto, se que era para pagar un aborto, pero el tenía dinero que le dió el chulo, que hizo con ese dinero?). La chica va a una clínica con el dinero del chico y al final no hacían abortos. Sin dinero y aún embarazada, recurre al chulo de nuevo, este le dice lo que hizo el de pelo azul y esta se enoja, en una escena que da bronca, por que ella se enoja de verdad. En esa escena hay un quiebre importante entre los chicos. Al final pasan cosas y el chico se da cuenta al recibir la paliza del chulo que la prota le arruinó la vida y la golpea hasta casi matarla. Se separan, incluso de la chica/amiga y va en busca de ayuda, consigue ayuda de verdad, la que debió tener desde un principio. Una pareja la tiene viviendo con ellos en su casa y la alimentan, la cuidan y obviamente quieren a su hijo, la tienen como vientre de alquiler. En un momento ella sale y llama a su hermana, aca vemos como ya vuelve a la realidad y deja de escapar, llamando y llorando por primera vez en la película, acordandose de su hermana, lo cual, su hermana ya aprendió a estar sin ella, a ser dependiente con su corta edad. Vuelve y tiene un aborto espontaneo en la casa de la pareja. El aborto era inevitable, la chica metió sustancias, tuvo golpes, etc; era obvio que iba a perder al bebé. En fin, seguro ella volvió a su casa, se tiñó el pelo y continúa disfrutando de su juventud.

This movie is a masterpiece. The soundtrack is phenomenal, oddly it reminds me (a little) of the awesome score to Dragon The Bruce Lee Story. Funnily enough Saving Private Ryan didn't affect me in the same way this film did.

Guys, I need help. I want to own this movie and my plans is to buy the best version of it; picture quality wise. I see that under KIMCHIDVD they have this: [Blu-Ray]Brotherhood (aka : Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War) 4K Remastered But this is a BLURAY disk, not an UHD 4K disc. So this means that is remastered in 4K but the quality is still 1080p? Which is the best version of this movie? Thanks!

I remember this movie being called Yeochinso too, but years after its romanized named changed for some reason.

Just watched it by mistake and immediately came to YT for the reviews. Whoever played the mother stole my heart with her tenderness and love. I have been to war as a soldier and rarely show emotion, but she made me cry. Everybody in this film was phenomenal. I laughed and cried. Thats the combination you need for good balance in life. I'll probably watch this movie more than a few times.

Why can't I find a freaking 100% review and plot

So I just watched it and I felt very disappointed. The plot holes, the bad action camera motion, the rough transitions, the boring parts inbetween. It was everything I did not expect to see, since a lot of people like this movie and the trailer looked awesome. I thought I might have found another gem. WHO HAS A FISH AQUARIUM AT EVERY SINGLE DESK AT A TASK FORCE??? This could have been solved so easily by the director by having just 1 - JUST ONE aquarium at the guy's desk with the explanation that it is from his girlfriend. My mind is just hurting with all the things this movie did wrong and could have easily been made better for a great action flick.

I enjoyed this movie. Great story. Feels like a novel. I really didn't been top notch effects. The story and characters is what counts for me. Im glad the sci fi is not overly done or exaggerated. It was placed where it was needed. I really felt so sorry for seobok. You dont context because you are not Korean. I feel the connection with seobok and his scientists mother.

So glad I found this video, I watched the theatrical and it was so confusing yet had some potential

The detective was crying at the end because he was conflicted but he knows that he has to kill Rak. Rak was ready to die and his 2 companions knows it as well that’s why they didn’t react. If they’re clueless they would’ve reacted differently. It was obvious, it’s his way of avenging the druggy teen in the beginning. There’s also a sequel and Won-Ho is in it.

The movie is one of my favorite korean or otherwise. Lee Min KI really made this story interesting . I know this movie has a another ending i didn't feel it was the ending they gave us. Thank you.

"Il Mare" is definitely one of the first South Korean films I saw in the early 2000s. I originally saw it the HK DVD which used the same non-anamorphic 4:3 letterbox transfer from the Korean DVD but with improved English subtitles. The Korean DVD however had worse subtitles which unfortunately was re-used not once but twice: the remastered 16:9 anamorphic 2-disc DVD boxset AND the bluray. This film never received a respectable release on home video format and fans have complained how the bluray looked similar with the previous DVD but with added noise reduction applied, thus removing all details and giving it a waxy, almost digital look. Hopefully one day, we'll see the 4K release on bluray/UHD. It's definitely one of my favorites and a classic in the hallyu wave cinema of the early 2000s.

Hi, did you remember how much this was? A 4k remaster is coming out soon, 9 discs and a book with a box art cover slip. I exspect your version to be considerably more due to all the physical content, the packaging and books are amazing. It is such a shame these are rare to get hold of as a collector it is very annoying. I think some of the Asian collector's edition are excellent, pricey tho, the only gripe I have with these is no English subs : ( so rather pointless if you are not fluent with the language, having including English subs is quite rare. The largest edition I have is the Neon Genesis Evangelion Ultimate edition with 12" laser disc art, cards plus movies and all included dubs and subs and extras.
